You don't have to settle for a credit card with no rewards program, just because you're a college student. When you use the Citi® mtvU® Select® Visa® Card for College Students, you get all of the benefits of a normal rewards card, and lots that are tailored to your specific needs as a college student.
When you use this credit card, you will receive one point for every dollar that you spend on general purchases, whatever it is that you're buying and wherever you're buying it. You will also receive five points for every dollar that you spend at bookstores, record stores, restaurants, movie theaters and video rentals, so you can earn points every time you go out on the town, or stay in and kick back.
Citibank knows that it's important that new credit card users start on the right foot with their credit, so this credit card rewards you for responsible use. Every time you make your payments on time and don't exceed your spending limit, your account will be credited with an additional 25 points. Twice a year, this card will also award you points depending upon the status of your GPA. Starting at a GPA of 2.5, you will be awarded anywhere between 250 and 2,000 bonus points, just for doing well in school.
Your points can then be redeemed for a variety of products and services, including gift cards, CDs, tickets to the MTV Video Music Awards, airline tickets and a VIP mtvU Spring Break Pass. You can only earn a maximum of 75,000 points each year, but you'll have five years to use them before they expire.
This card charges you no annual fee for use, so you get all of your earned rewards at no extra cost to you. The interest rate on both purchases and balance transfers is above the average for a student credit card, but it does offer an introductory rate of 0% on all of your card transactions for your first six months of use.
You will also receive a variety of cardholder benefits, including up to $1,000,000 in travel accident insurance, auto rental insurance, and various travel and emergency assistance services. You will also get a 10% discount on purchases from the MTV online store and at their New York City location. With great rewards and benefits, there's no better card to help college students start building their credit.
